Deception Pass

Aaron and I have found ourselves living near tourist destinations for the past two years. The current tourist trap is Deception Pass, located on the north end of Whidbey Island. Deception Pass bridge is the only thing that connects the island to the "mainland" of Washington state. The only other option to get off or on the island is by ferry.

Our first explorations of our new home took us to Deception Pass State Park. This is a park right along the beach under the bridge. We managed to get to the beach when the tide was out. We were able to walk out on the beach for a short distance.

We met up with our friends the Bedwells for the day. All of us had just moved from the gulf coast and were a little surprised at the difference in beach sand.  Where Pensacola had warm, white, sandy beaches, Whidbey Island (and the Pacific Northwest) has black, rocky ones.  However, they are still fun to visit.
